pauldryeThe Pilgrim Project is a 1964 novel that fictionalizes the very real "One-Way Manned Space Mission" by John M. Cord and Leonard M. Seale (no relation to the book's author, Hank Searls). Intended as a contemporary techno-thriller, it's alternate history now. Though it was the basis for the better-known 1968 movie Countdown, it's essentially unknown now, through copies are easy enough to find for purchase online.
